Este artigo apresenta o relato e as reflexões decorrentes da aplicação da Modelagem Matemáticacomo estratégia de ensino no caso específico de estudantes da terceira fase do curso deCiências da Computação das Faculdades Integradas Univest – FACVEST em Lages – SC, na disciplinade Cálculo. Foi desenvolvido um modelo matemático para crescimento da Araucaria angustifóliausando técnicas de Cálculo Diferencial e Integral. O objetivo principal do trabalho consistiu na Modelagemcomo fator de integração entre a Matemática do estudante universitário e a investigação deproblemas regionais. Pôde-se concluir quanto à eficácia da Modelagem para este fim, bem comopara a compreensão dos conteúdos específicos da disciplina.

This article presents the reflections about the application of Mathematical Modeling as astrategy of education in the specific case of students of the third phase of Computer Sciences of the Faculdades Integradas Univest – FACVEST in Lages – SC, in disciplines of Calculus. A mathematicalmodel for growth of the Araucaria angustifólia was developed, using techniques of Differential andIntegral Calculus. The main objective of the work consisted of the Modeling in the integration ofuniversity students Mathematics and the inquiry of regional problems. It could be concluded aboutthe effectiveness of the Modeling for this end, as well as for the understanding of the specificcontents of Calculus.
